Pressure Injuries
Course Description
Pressure injuries (pressure ulcers) are a major source of morbidity in aged care and a critical indicator of care quality. This course provides an in-depth clinical understanding of the pathophysiology, risk factors, and staging of pressure injuries.
Staff will learn to perform structured risk assessments, implement preventive strategies such as repositioning schedules, support surface selection, nutrition interventions, and moisture management. The course also covers wound assessment, dressing selection, pain management, and infection prevention.
Emphasis is placed on documenting care accurately, monitoring healing outcomes, and using audit data to improve practice. Practical scenarios and case studies highlight multidisciplinary collaboration and escalation processes to maintain compliance with the Strengthened Standards.
This course aims to enhance staff competence in preventing, assessing, and managing pressure injuries in older adults. Participants will gain practical and clinical knowledge aligned with quality standards, clinical governance requirements, and the Aged Care Act 2024.
