Respiratory Conditions
Course Description
A chronic respiratory condition can have a significant impact on an older person’s quality of life. This course will explore a range of chronic respiratory conditions (including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), identify their signs and symptoms and discuss practical strategies that staff can implement to support older people in their care.

* Describe key signs and symptoms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma, Occupational Lung Diseases, and Pneumonia
* Identify potential impacts that respiratory conditions may have on a person’s daily life, including the psychological and emotional effects

Sevim Hodge is a Clinical Academic Nurse with a special interest in the care of older adults. Her PhD research focused on acute deterioration in frail older adults in care homes. Her clinical experience includes acute hospital and social care settings. She is also skilled in academic writing, clinical research, literature reviews and project management. Sevim undertook her PhD with the National Institute of Health & Social Care Research, Applied Research Collaboration, East Midlands (NIHR – ARC-EM). She successfully obtained a NIHR award to undertake a MA in Research Methods at the University of Nottingham (completed in 2018).
