Palliative and End-of-Life Care
Course Description
This course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of palliative and end-of-life care within aged care settings. It explores the principles and goals that underpin compassionate, person-centred care at this critical stage of life. Learners will gain insight into the collaborative roles of multidisciplinary healthcare teams in delivering coordinated support for individuals and their families.
The course also highlights effective communication techniques, and knowing when palliative care interventions are appropriate. In addition, it addresses care during the last days of life, bereavement support, and the importance of self-care for staff during emotionally challenging times.
Learning Outcomes
When you have finished, you will be able to:
* Outline the key principles and goals of palliative and
end-of-life care
* Describe the roles of generalist, specialist care and other
services in providing coordinated and collaborative care
* Demonstrate the use of evidence-based practices to
deliver quality palliative care
* Identify signs of deterioration and the last days of life,
and recognise when palliative care may be appropriate
* Outline bereavement care and strategies to look after
yourself”
