Course Description
In aged care, promoting connectedness and meaningful ageing is critical because social isolation, loss of purpose, and disconnection can lead to depression, cognitive decline, and reduced overall health. Staff who prioritise these principles encourage participation in social, cultural, and recreational activities, support ongoing relationships, and respect residents’ values, beliefs, and life stories. By fostering connection and purpose, aged care services not only enhance quality of life but also uphold person-centred, compassionate care, ensuring that residents continue to feel valued, heard, and engaged in their later years.
Learning Outcomes
To equip aged care staff with the knowledge, skills, and practical strategies to support older people in maintaining social connections, engaging in meaningful activities, and experiencing a sense of purpose and wellbeing, thereby promoting holistic, person-centred care.
