Course Description
This course explores how infectious agents spread and identifies simple precautions that can be taken to reduce the risk of infection.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
* Understand the principles of infection prevention and control
* Know how infections are transmitted and how to break the chain of infection
* Apply standard precautions to prevent and control infection
* Demonstrate effective hand hygiene
* Use personal protective equipment (PPE) safely and appropriately
* Handle waste, laundry and sharps in line with organisational policy
* Understand the importance of environmental cleaning and decontamination
* Recognise the role of vaccination and staff health in infection prevention
* Work in line with legislation, guidance and local policy to prevent infection
