Course Description
Anaphylaxis poses a serious health risk in care settings. Anaphylaxis is a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can escalate within minutes, triggered by foods, medications, insect stings, or latex. For older people, multiple medications, chronic conditions, and age-related immune changes increase their vulnerability, making timely recognition and intervention critical to preventing serious complications or death.
Understanding anaphylaxis is essential to ensure safety, risk prevention, and regulatory compliance. This training will enable staff to identify early warning signs, follow care plans, administer emergency interventions such as epinephrine correctly, and communicate effectively with the older person, their families, and healthcare teams. Overall, this knowledge supports a culture of safety, confidence, and professional, person-centred care.
Course Aim: Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. This course will describe what anaphylaxis is, demonstrate how to recognise and respond to anaphylaxis, and explain how to take prompt, effective action in an emergency.
