Behaviour Support Beyond Restrictive Practices
Course Description
Managing behaviours of concern requires a thorough understanding of the underlying causes, including unmet psychosocial, medical, or environmental needs.
This course explores clinical assessment techniques, behaviour analysis frameworks, and the development of positive behaviour support (PBS) strategies tailored to individual residents. Participants will learn to apply the least restrictive interventions, integrate sensory modulation techniques, and monitor outcomes to ensure safety and wellbeing.
The course also addresses consent, documentation, escalation procedures, and the legal and regulatory context surrounding restrictive interventions. Case studies illustrate practical application of PBS principles in complex clinical situations.
This course aims to equip staff with clinical knowledge and strategies for managing behaviours of concern in older adults while minimising the use of restrictive practices. Participants will learn to develop proactive, person-centred behaviour support plans.
