Course Description
Allergies and anaphylaxis are serious health risks in aged care settings. Anaphylaxis is a rapid, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can escalate within minutes, triggered by foods, medications, insect stings, or latex. For older people, multiple medications, chronic conditions, and age-related immune changes increase their vulnerability, making timely recognition and intervention critical to preventing serious complications or death.
For care workers, understanding allergies and anaphylaxis is essential for resident safety, risk prevention, and regulatory compliance Training empowers staff to identify early warning signs, follow care plans, administer emergency interventions such as epinephrine correctly, and communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare teams. Overall, this knowledge supports a culture of safety, confidence, and professional, person-centred care.
