Course Description
This course explores the needs and experiences of people living with mental health conditions and dementia, and how you can promote positive wellbeing, recognise early warning signs and work within legal and ethical frameworks to provide safe, person-centred care.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
* Understand the needs and lived experiences of people with mental health conditions and dementia, including how these can affect mood, thinking, behaviour, relationships and day-to-day life.
* Explain the importance of promoting positive health and wellbeing, and how physical health, social connection, meaningful activity and environment can influence mental health and dementia.
* Describe the adjustments that may be needed in care delivery (for example, communication, environment and reasonable adjustments) so that support is person-centred, trauma-informed and strengths-based.
* Recognise early signs and indicators that someone’s mental health or dementia may be worsening, and know your role in observing, recording and reporting concerns.
* Outline the key legal frameworks, policies and guidelines that shape care for people with mental health conditions or dementia, and understand your responsibilities and limits of role when working under these.
